Irish model Tia Duffy is hoping to ignite a global conversation about
body image since landing a new body confidence campaign in Canada.
The 25-year-old plus-size model from Dublin moved to Toronto in 2015,
and she has been working for a "beauty without size" approach to the
fashion industry.
"I feel like it's taken me a long time to get here, a lot of
campaigning a lot of ups and downs but the bottom line Is did it," she
said. "I became an international model/ spokeswoman after
entering beauty pageants 10 years ago and never fitting in. Now my goal
is to get my talks on body image all over schools in the USA and Canada
maybe a TED talk who knows but I'll keep going. Anything is possible." Tia currently features in the #BeBodyAware campaign, shot by Tianxiao
Zhang, which aims to create equality in the modelling world, recalling
occasions where some photographers and stylists who refused to work with
her for being plus-size. "I remember turning up to shoots seven
years ago and people would ask me, 'Are you the model?' It was very
embarrassing to be honest."
"Be Body Aware hopes to bridge the gap between plus-size and
straight-size models, and even encourage more models who feel lost
because they are in-between sizes, like me."
